Autumn holidays in Cannes: family outing ideas

Late October is one of the loveliest times to visit Cannes: the light is soft, the sea still sparkles and the summer crowds have gone home. 1. Hop on a boat to the Lérins Islands

A short boat ride from the Old Port (departures from Quai Laubeuf), Île Sainte-Marguerite is a natural playground for children: pine-forest trails, little coves and the Fort Royal, where you can visit the cell of the mysterious Man in the Iron Mask. Next door, Île Saint-Honorat is home to an abbey still run by monks. Bring a picnic and comfortable shoes.

2. Climb up to Le Suquet

Cannes' old quarter is all cobbled lanes and steep little streets. At the top, the Musée des Explorations du Monde and its tower offer one of the best views over the bay and the islands. Kids love the climb, parents love the view.

3. Browse the Forville market

In the morning, the covered Forville market is the place to taste Provence: fresh fruit, local cheeses and socca, a warm chickpea pancake. A simple, tasty start to the day.

4. Follow in the footsteps of the stars

On the forecourt of the Palais des Festivals, the Chemin des Étoiles features the handprints of famous film stars. A great game for children: who can find their favourite actor first? Then enjoy a stroll along the Croisette, right by the sea.

5. Rainy day? Head to Grasse

About half an hour away by car, Grasse is the world capital of perfume. The Fragonard perfumery offers guided tours of its workshops, where children discover how a fragrance is made, and everyone leaves with a nose full of memories.
